Kidd's Orange Red, apple
A seedling planted in 1924 by J. H. Kidd in Greytown, Wairarapa, New Zealand. The apple is a cross between Cox Orange and Delicius (not to be confused with Golden Delicius).
The tree tends to grow with long vertical branches. Cutting and bending of branches to a horizontal position improve fertility.
Apples basic color is yellow. Red-orange are covering most of the apple. The flesh is firm, crisp and juicy with a strong aroma. The apples are noticeably sweeter than Cox's Orange Pippin.
Kidd's Orange Red is a late variety that ripens around mid-October in the northern hemisphere. It should preferably be consumed before the New Year.
